Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a minimally invasive inpatient procedure used for kidney stones that cannot be passed naturally, treated with Shockwave Lithotripsy, or medication. PCNL is an excellent option for patients with large kidney stones (generally larger than 2 cm), multiple large stones, or stones resistant to prior treatment with other methods.
Large kidney stones
The urologist makes a small incision in your back, inserts a tube that enters the kidney, and removes the kidney stone through the tube. The patient is under general anesthesia during the procedure and usually has to remain in the hospital for 2 to 3 days.
Our physicians are experienced in treating the complete range of urologic conditions and diseases, from kidney stones and sexual dysfunction to prostate cancer, incontinence and infertility.
